Meghan Trainor is set to play in Port Hawkesbury, N.S., tonight. The Grammy award winner — known for songs like All About That Bass, Me Too and No — is playing a free outdoor concert there because the town won the Air Miles Detour contest.
"It's pretty exciting for small town like Port Hawkesbury, you don't expect anyone [big] to be coming to it," said Callum Morgan, a Port Hawkesbury resident.
Concert crews could be seen putting the final touches on the stage Wednesday. The show will be the biggest outdoor concert ever for the town.
'Really exciting'
There were 6,000 free tickets made available to people with Air Miles cards.
Vanessa Cooper said she wasn't able to get a ticket, but said a bunch are being resold online.
"Really exciting. I wish I had tickets," said Cooper. "I don't think I will pay. Not that I don't have the money, I can pay for them. I just think it's morally not right to be selling them."
Watching from the backyard
The Bona family doesn't need tickets. They have a good view of the main stage from their backyard.
"That's where I'll be parking my butt," said Darren Bona.
Courtney Bona says they've become very popular in the neighbourhood.
"There has been a few [people] messaging us saying, 'can we stay in your backyard?' Or sit in your backyard? Party is at your house," she said.
Business boost
The concert is also selling out local hotels.
James Tobin, the general manager of Maritime Inn in Port Hawkesbury, said Meghan Trainor has been good for business. He said the hotel was sold out Wednesday and Thursday night.
"We got a large waiting list," said Tobin.
