Disappointment for Edmonton Keith Urban fans sold fraudulent tickets

mercredi 14 septembre 2016

Leanne Mclenaghan couldn't believe her luck when she landed a pair of last-minute tickets to Friday's Keith Urban concert at the newly opened Rogers Place arena.

But it turns out the deal was too good to be true.

The tickets she purchased for the country music star's upcoming concert were among 58 fraudulent tickets stolen during a recent break and enter at radio station CISN Country, located on the city's south side.

"I was blown away," said Mclenaghan on Wednesday.

"It was super disappointing because we thought we had such good tickets and now we can't even go."

Thieves made off with the tickets after robbing the business at 52nd Avenue and 84th Street in August, and Edmonton police now believe many of them were sold online to unsuspecting fans.

Mclenaghan says she and her friend Edward Quinn found the tickets on Kijiji. They'd been searching for weeks, after the concert initially sold out in a matter of minutes.

They paid $250 for a pair of fifth row seats, on the floor.

Quinn met the woman selling the tickets on Sept. 8th inside the McDonalds at 105th Street and 111th Avenue.

Although surprised at the deal, he never suspected it was a scam.

"I asked her why she wasn't going, because they were such good seats and she's selling them for cheap," Quinn said.

"And she said she won them on the radio and she's not a big Keith Urban fan, and she said wouldn't be able to go to the concert, regardless.

"We were excited to be going to the first concert at Rogers Place and it took the wind out of our sails."

'It's just so saddening'

Mclenaghan says she's waited years to see Urban in concert, and news that her tickets are fake came as a huge disappointment.

"I love Keith Urban," she said. "Unfortunately, last year when he came to Edmonton, I was pregnant and I ended up with a sinus infection so bad that I was bedridden, and I couldn't go ... now,  it's just so saddening."

After shelling out so much cash,  Mclenaghan says can't afford to buy another set of tickets, and wouldn't want to stomach the disappointment of sitting in the rafters.

"We're already out money. It's a couple days before the show, and people who are selling tickets are selling them for so expensive, unless they're in the nosebleeds, which we really don't want to do."

The concert tickets were clearly marked "COMP," which stands for "complimentary," police said.

A full list of the fraudulent tickets can be found here. Those ticket are no longer valid and will not work on concert night.

The stolen tickets have been re-issued to CISN Country.

Anyone who believes they may have purchased a fraudulent ticket is asked to contact police.
