B.C. author W.P. Kinsella has ended his own life at the age of 81 under Canada's assisted-dying law.
Kinsella, a prolific author, was best known for his 1982 novel Shoeless Joe, the source material for the 1989 film Field of Dreams.
In a news release announcing Kinsella's death, his literary agent described him as a "unique, creative and outrageously opinionated man."
Kinsella died Friday at 12:05 p.m. PT at his home in Hope, B.C.
He was born in Edmonton.
