Los Angeles police took a man into custody Thursday on suspicion of felony vandalism, reports Variety, after Donald Trump's plaque was destroyed by a pickaxe-wielding vandal.

According to the entertainment news outlet, Los Angeles Police Department officers arrested the man in Hollywood as he was on his way to give a speech.
Investigators were called to the popular tourist attraction before dawn Wednesday after reports a a pickaxe-wielding man was smashing the U.S. presidential candidate's star.
A video posted on Deadline Hollywood Wednesday appears to show the incident as it happened.
A man who identified himself as Jamie Otis told Deadline that he's responsible for the damage. He said he wanted to auction off pieces of the star to raise funds for the 11 women accusing the presidential candidate of groping them. Trump has denied the groping allegations and threatened to sue his accusers.
It's not clear if Otis is the same man in police custody.
Repairs underway
The group that oversees the Hollywood Walk of Fame says it's working to quickly repair the damage.
Hollywood Chamber of Commerce President Leron Gubler says it will take several days for the fixes to be completed.
It's not the first time Trump's monument on the popular tourist boulevard has been the focus of political protest.
In July, a Los Angeles artist built a miniature border wall around the sidewalk plaque to spoof Trump's pledge to build a wall between the U.S. and Mexico. The 15-centimetre-tall structure was complete with barbed wire, "Keep out" signs, and American flags.

Trump's star was first dedicated in 2007 in recognition of his work on NBC's reality TV show The Apprentice.
