Despite his current legal woes, 12-time Olympic medallist Ryan Lochte was named Tuesday as one of the contestants.
Lochte admits he lied about having a gun held to his head at a Rio de Janeiro gas station, where he and three other American swimmers had stopped to use a restroom. Lochte says he has offered to reimburse fellow swimmer James Feigen for a nearly $11,000 fine Feigen paid to resolve legal issues and leave the country.
Brazil wants Lochte to return to face a charge of filing a false police report, but he told ABC's Good Morning America on Tuesday his legal team is dealing with the situation, adding "we're just trying to get this over with."
Former Texas governor Rick Perry will make history, meanwhile, as the first U.S. presidential candidate to appear on the show. Former House Majority Leader Tom Delay previously appeared on the show.
The 23rd edition of the show, premiering Sept. 12, also features recording artists Babyface and Vanilla Ice; model and former Kanye West flame Amber Rose; Terra Jole from the reality show Little Women; actors Jake T. Austin, Marilu Henner, Jana Kramer and Maureen McCormick; Rio Olympics gold medal gymnast Laurie Hernandez and recently retired NFL star Calvin Johnson.
